    Hi there,

This is Matt Blois, one of Shawn’s Assistant Teaching Professionals at the Richmond Hill Golf Learning Centre.

The reason the turf is being torn up under you left foot is that your foot is spinning out on the downswing. This results from not being braced against your left side before you arms begin swinging down. Take a look at “Golf pro lesson one leg swing no weight shift”, hope that helps!

Whenever I’m at range I always seem to tear up alot of turf with my feet especially left foot compared to others I see at the range, any clues to as why this is happening? Thx

    Hey shawn,

I was on itunes the other day downloading some very useful podcasts for a computer programme I am trying to learn, when out of pure interest I thought I might try to search for you, the search came back with nothing, but it dawned on me that podcasts could be great idea!? Us fans could then watch on the train / bus etc on the way to work, and wouldn’t need a computer to hand every time we want to re watch a lesson of yours, they would be on our portable ipods etc.

    just an idea! Gary

Great video Shawn. The hogan power drill is the greatest.I have noticed that on my finish my weight is on the left side however I end up rolling my left foot up on its edge.I was born with a club foot and that foot is straight however it is much weaker and smaller than the right.I dont believe I am swaying . Perhaps there maybe something else causing this. Is this move acceptable or is it a swing flaw. You have some of the greatest videos I have ever seen and would like to say thank you very much

    Hello MadsHilde!
Yes, I know what you mean, it is called the butt of the club; and the pulling action is in response to the existing momentum; have a look at the “golf pro lesson timing and tempo” as well as the “golf pro lesson power sources”; and as a beginner, you will like the new video I just uploaded called the “golf pro lesson take better divots”; Shawn

And one more thing. I know I’m just a newbie but I have learned playing golf only from your videos. I have spend so many hours just watching your videos. Thank you very much for your work.
    Greetings from Denmark

I have played golf for 3 months now and this video was the big eyeopener for me. My problem was, or one of my problems was, that I started the shift from my left leg, I’m a leftie, but this video did the trick for me.
Another thing, which helped my swing alot, which I can’t find any of your videos explaining, is the feel of pulling the club down in the downswing like if I wanted to hit the ball with the tip of the shaft. Hope you know what I mean.

cool im not saying its wrong cus i played pretty good with a straight leg on the backswing myself but i just wasnt quite consistant enough. i understand your method aswell and if it works then do it as theres no set method. Your videos are generally very good though so no complaints :)

It is not a collapse guys! Have a look at my “golf pro lesson head bobbing” video and the new video I came out with called “golf pro lesson get more power”; you will understand how and why and come out of the dark! :) Also, if you are a doctor, you will love my “golf pro lesson learn your golf machine” with my best assistant, Scully, who is a life size skeleton in our office!

totally agree with mrpedrogolf, his right leg collapses on his backswing where as it should be stable and flexed a little. i know this cus i do the same thing lol its hard to get out of though.

Great Video! Shawn, by the weight shifting happening from behind do you mean the feeling of someone pulling you as if there was a rope tied to your back at the top of your swing? So that your body is now supported by the left side.

  12. Commentsbluejfk   |  Saturday, 07 February 2009 at 6:58 am

Although the right leg does not become complete strait on the back swing it does straiten a little. If you have a big hip turn the only way you can maintain that right knee angle is to “load up on the right side” at that point you are in reverse C territory like Phil M.

The point is that you do not throw your weight at all. Shawn’s big hip turn theory allows you to simply fall into the left side. It makes that hitting into the left side stupid easy and for me pain free!!!!

Shawn, you say that “The driver and longer clubs require that you wait longer for momentum..brain not used to waiting for the the cycle” can you pls elaborate on this. is this a rhythm issue for the longer clubs? should i slow it down or speed it up..im unable to feel the SOLID brace on the left side for the longer clubs when compared to the shorter ones….great video..thanks

can i ask why does it look like your right leg is straightening on back swing? it looks as though its throwing your weight the wrong way

Toss, Fall, Fall watched this video carefully this morning and tried it out at the driving range.
I felt my club releasing at the last fall, and really whipped the ball. What a great feeling on impact! This is just my 2nd week since I started playing and Im amazed of how effective this technique is. Many thanks!

“golf pro lesson great driver tip”, “golf pro lesson modern driver”, “golf pro lesson braced tilt part 2″; and “golf pro lesson weak grip or strong grip?”; this should do the trick! Shawn
